Yes, if you’re just interested in learning to skate for fun, but we recommend you continue until Level 4 so you have mastered all of the basic skating skills which will teach you how to use your edges and perform crossovers.

If you’re interested in joining Ice Hockey Academy, you need to continue to Level 6 to ensure you have mastered the basics of skating and can get the most out of this course. More information can be found on the Ice Hockey Academy page.

If you’re not sure whether you can perform all the minimum elements to the required standards, you can book an evaluation through Skate School. Evaluations take approximately 5–10 minutes to complete.

The foundations of skating in either figure skates or hockey skates are the same, whichever ice sport you choose to continue with. These include learning basic forward and backward strokes, using your edges effectively, performing crossovers and learning how to stop.

Yes, casual attendance is available for our adult-only classes held on Monday evenings. The cost is $45 per lesson. All other age groups are required to join the full course.

Yes, subject to availability in an alternative class at your level. Please speak to Reception if you would like to change your class day.

Enrolments for courses close in Week 1 of each term.

If you have just completed Skate School Intro, you can continue to Skate School mid-term. Please speak to Reception to enrol, and we will pro-rate the course fee based on the remaining weeks in the term.

It is best to book an evaluation with our Skate School team so they can select the most appropriate class level for you. Evaluations take approximately 5–10 minutes to complete.

The Intro short course is the entry point for Skate School. It covers the first Aussie Skate level, which is no longer included within the main Skate School program.

Before your first class of the term, please arrive 30 minutes early and bring a copy of your enrolment confirmation to Reception, along with your membership card if you are a current student.

When you enrol in Intro, you will receive a membership card for checking in before each class. Your first card is included with your course enrolment. Replacement card fees apply if your card is lost. Please see the Terms & Conditions page for the latest fees.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before all subsequent classes so you have enough time to check in and put on your skates. You must check in at Reception before each class so we can record your attendance.

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows plenty of movement, with layers that can be easily removed. Ice ArenA is cold, so warmer layers are useful while you are off the ice. We also recommend wearing gloves because fingers can get cold.

You are welcome to wear protective equipment if it makes you feel more comfortable. Popular items include skating helmets, wrist braces or guards, volleyball knee pads and padded skating pants or shorts. Avoid rigid skating knee pads, as these may restrict the movement required for ice skating.

Don’t forget to bring water.
